Scottish Collage Artist
Maygan Campbell
Maygan Campbell is a Scottish collage artist and painter currently focused on women’s relationship to the fashion and beauty industry by satirising trends and ideas often found in fashion magazines.
In the past, she has focused on the idea of colour, collage, and memory by exploring the people, the places, and the memories that informed her childhood and made them the person they are today. (see paintings for examples)
Paintings
Paintings created from the project colour, collage, memory. The project originally started as an artist book that only explored the people in my life, the following year it was expanded to also explore places and specific memories that informed my childhood, as well as expanding upon the techniques the previous project employed. Each painting began with collaging photographs together to create a composition which thematically tied in with the idea of fragmented memories entwining together.
Animations
Animations created from a variety of projects.
“The Shapes of You” set out to explore shape language and how it worked in relation to the music. I have always had an interest in how music and art can elevate each other and I wanted to explore this through musical concepts such as tempo, timbre and dynamics and how this would affect how the shapes effect and interact with each other. The animation was created through stop motion using a lightbox and tissue paper.
“OMG” is a short film that explores sympathy responses to differing situations on social media through both a satirical and a sombre lens. I wanted to explore how social media and technology interact with our ability to communicate and form genuine connections. I investigated this through simple animation that I felt represented the current state of social media, while also showing both a comedic and a sympathetic side to the internet.
“Digital Silence Animation” set out to create a segment of an animated lyric video using a mix of rotoscoping (animation technique) and 2D frame by frame animation. Credits to the song go to Peter McPoland – Digital Silence.

The 4 concepts I decided to explore within this project were: overconsumption, equality, plastic surgery and cyber-security. I decided to cover these issues because they are persistent struggles within the fashion industry, although I didn’t want to be too overly critical however so I decided to look at it through a satirical lens.
